An absolute favourite around Brisbane, Alcantarea ‘Silver Plum’ forms a large and magnificent specimen around the garden. Whether grown in the ground or in a pot, this plant performs reliably in Brisbane conditions. Silver Plum is one of the few true full sun bromeliads, easily capable of growing in all day direct sun. Simply keep the central ‘tank’ full of water at and it will take care of itself.

Alcantareas do not have extensive root systems, and they don’t usually require any fertiliser. In fact, giving them too much fertilizer may make them turn more green, and has been associated with early flowering and the death of the plant.
