Foxtail Palms at Oxley Nursery, Brisbane

Foxtail Palm

Wodyetia bifurcata

Synonyms: Foxy Palm.

Foxtail Palms are a relatively new species on the scene, only having been discovered 1978 in Cape York (Queensland). They have a unique, “fluffy” look which is hard to imitate. As a tall garden specimen, they are hard to beat. Despite coming from tropical Australia, Foxies are quite cold tolerant, even handling light frost. This makes them perfect for all areas of Brisbane, even the western suburbs. Foxtail Palms are a neat plant as far as palms go. Self-cleaning, though they will still produce a fair bit of fruit if the flower bracts aren’t removed.
